The poetry.onl Chapbook Fellowship

WHAT WE OFFER

The winner will receive:

  • A $1,000 stipend.
  • Publication (Print, audio, & eBook)
  • 10 complimentary copies (from a first-print run of 150),
  • A $200 budget for licensing cover artwork through the press,
  • A live-streamed celebration and reading with ASL interpretation and live captioning.
  • For the fellowship, the winner will curate new authors for one month of  poetry.onl’s literary journal.

In January 2023, the winner’s chapbook will be published by Poetry Online imprint offline.onl.

The winner will also work alongside staff to simultaneously release an audio-book version of their chapbook. The selected author may receive an opportunity to purchase additional copies of their chapbook at a discounted rate. The winning manuscript will be designed and printed locally in a standard, 6 by 9 inch book format. The editors may offer publication to finalist(s) who aren’t selected as winner.

The contest Submission Fee is $5 USD. Submissions are only accepted via Submittable unless other arrangements are made for accessibility. Please email us if this is the case.

Contest submissions are open from April 1 – July 1, 2022. Early-bird submissions opened on March 22, 2022.

ELIGIBILITY

The 2022 offline.onl Poetry Chapbook Fellowship is open to any poet writing primarily in English. Simultaneous submissions are permissible, but entrants are asked to notify the contest administrators through the contest website immediately if a manuscript becomes committed elsewhere.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Entries must be submitted between April 1, 2022 and July 1, 2022.
  • All entries must be submitted to our online submissions manager.
  • Do not include your name on any of the pages of the manuscript file.
  • The first page of the manuscript should include the title of the collection only.
  • Poems may be previously published. However, poems cannot have been collectively previously published in a manuscript of any kind.
  • Entries must be accompanied by a $5 entry fee.* Entrants may submit multiple manuscripts, but must pay a $5 entry fee for each manuscript submitted.  
    *If you have demonstrated financial need, please send a brief note with of circumstances and request by email.
  • Manuscripts should have a page count (poems only, not including title page, table of contents, acknowledgements, or other items) of 20 to 30 pages.
  • Each poem should begin on a new page.
  • The fonts Times New Roman or Arial, size 12, are highly recommended for submission, but not required.
  • Manuscripts should be submitted in PDF (.pdf) or Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format only. Manuscripts submitted in another file format are not permitted and will be disqualified.
  • Revisions to the manuscript are not permitted after submission to the contest.
  • Important payment information: at this time, we can only send funds through PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle. Please be prepared to receive payment through one of these services in the case you are selected as winner.
  • We are a small, nonprofit located in the U.S. Disclaimer for those living abroad (from U.S. mainland): prize winnings, chapbook mailings, or other winnings of monetary value may be adjusted for related fees incurred as necessary (shipping costs, payment processing fees, and so on).
  • We are not responsible for fees incurred from payment processors or global tax policies.

READING PROCESS

  • Within two [2] months (and likely sooner), after the contest closes, the press will select ten [10] fellowship finalists, and notify them of their status promptly.
  • After finalist manuscript availability is confirmed, the team will select one [1] fellowship winner.
